Within the Turin Humanities Programme, Rudi Capra will develop the research project All Things as “One-Body” (yi ti 一體), analysing the role of body metaphors and corporeity in the syncretic philosophy of the forefather of Neo-Confucianism, Zhu Xi 朱熹 (1130-1200), drawing comparisons with John of Salisbury’s (1110-1180) body politic. More generally, he will investigate how body metaphors and the notion of corporeity provided a theoretical ground for conceptualizing and legitimizing dynamics of power and efficacy in East Asian societies.
