Pernille Røge is an Associate Professor of History and Associate Director of the World History Center at the University of Pittsburgh, where she teaches courses on the history of European empires, the Age of Revolutions, and the European Enlightenment. Her research focuses on the political economy of empire in eighteenth-century French and Danish imperial contexts. She is the author of Economistes and the Reinvention of Empire: France in the Americas and Africa, c. 1750-1802 (Cambridge University Press, 2019) and co-editor of two volumes: The Political Economy of Empire in the Early Modern World (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013) and Free and Unfree Labor in Atlantic and Indian Ocean Port Cities, 1700-1850 (International Review of Social History/Cambridge University Press, 2019). She is currently working on a book manuscript, entitled A Gateway to Empire: Foreigners, Foreign Capital, and the Riches of Danish Colonial Commerce, c. 1750-1815. Røge also convenes Pitt’s Early Modern Worlds Initiative and co-directs an interdisciplinary project on the history of gun violence.
