David Lewis is Senior Lecturer in Greek History and Culture at the University of Edinburgh. He trained at Durham in the north of England (2003-2012) before moving on to postdoctoral work at Edinburgh (2013-2016); he was Assistant Professor of Ancient History at the University of Nottingham (2016-2018) before returning to Edinburgh in 2018.

His research focuses on the socio-economic history of ancient Greece with a special emphasis on labour, trade and slavery. He is the author of Greek Slave Systems in their Eastern Mediterranean Context, c. 800-146 BC (Oxford University Press, 2018), and co-editor (with Edward Harris and Mark Woolmer) of The Ancient Greek Economy: Markets, Households and City-States (Cambridge University Press, 2016) and (with Edmund Stewart and Edward Harris) of Skilled Labour and Professionalism in Ancient Greece and Rome (Cambridge University Press, 2020).

He is currently working on a monograph on the ancient Greek slave trade.
